The anticipation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
